Graduation (a few days late)

Well, on Tuesday I (and the rest of the Trinity class of 2009) graduated from highschool. The whole day was hectic and joyful and stressful and fun all at the same time. Early in the morning (8 o'clock, oi) we met for one last benediction rehearsal and got all the little kinks worked out (or so we hoped). If we got there early, at 7:45, we were promised donuts. Yum. I ran late, but there were still a plethora of donuts ready to be consumed. I realize they're not all that good for you; maybe in terrible for you, but I love them. Maple bars and cream filled, especially. After the rehearsal, all our parents showed up to run through the actual graduation procession and whatnot. I know the rehearsal was neccessary, but it seemed kind of anti-climatic. But it was followed with wonderful sandwhich and salad goodness, for our final "senior luncheon". Afterward Tucker and I laid on the couch and took "myspace pictures", according to Tucker. ;) Those of us who had perforamnces or speeches had to stay and run through that - it was a very odd experience to hear my voice over the speakers. Microphones are an odd concept in general - I'm no mechanic, and I don't think I'll ever understand how it takes your voice, turns into electronic signals, sends it speeding down the wires or right through the air to the receiver, turns it into sound again and reproduces it, magnified, through the speakers. It blows my mind, pretty much. Anyway, after that we were all able to go home and get some rest. I couldn't exactly sleep, so I watched part of "The Quiet Man", the movie I mentioned awhile back. It's very good! Looking forward to finishing it.

Fast forward to 6:30 that night. I think all of us were nervous, even though some of us showed it more than others. But all around there was an excitement buzzing through the air - from parents, students, seniors, and friends. It was a pleasant feeling. 3 of us seniors (Rebekah, Steven, and myself) were interviewed for an article to be published in the Star - it was a good interview, but the article was kind of butchered. Oh media.
Then came the event! I have to say, all of the performances were just downright amazing - there was a quartet, Irish dancing, piano and singing, a basketball presentation, and another speech. Greatness. (I'll post my speech later).
Then we lined up for the procession and to the graduation ceremony! I don't know about the others, but it still hadn't really hit me; "This is it, I actually *am* graduating. It's not a rehearsal, not a performance. For reals". Heh, but it hit me later.
And, my oh my, the benediction went off without a hitch. The band was great, the singers sounded awesome, and the choreography didn't have any mistakes. It really was a great performance, if I do say so myself. Hopefully you can see a video of it, if you weren't there.

Then came the tassel move and the celebration! I think I gave/received over 50 hugs and almost as many highfives or fist bumps. It was great happiness. Congratulations, Class of 2009! Go for the Gusto! ;-)
